Brokeback Reunion?

E-mail Print PDF

Director Ed Zwick (The Last Samurai, Defiance) has tapped Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway to star in LOVE AND OTHER DRUGS. 20th Century Fox and New Regency are financing the film which will begin shooting on September 21st 2009. Scott Stuber, Edward Zwick, Marshall Herskovitz and Pieter Jan Brugge are producing the film. Charles Randolph wrote the screenplay which has been rewritten by Edward Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz.

I've been able to confirm that this project is the former UNTITLED CHARLES RANDOLPH which was featured in the 2007's Black List.

Here's the synopsis:

Jamie Reidy (Jake Gyllenhaal) is a charmer and a talker who is never still. He does not live up to his family's expectations of him or to the successes of his siblings. Jamie jumps from job to job, and eventually finds his niche in the pharmaceutical sales world. It isn't an easy start for him, until he is able to use his polished skills with women to sell the new drug, Viagra, released by his company Pfizer.

Meanwhile Maggie Murdock (Anne Hathaway) is a pretty young woman with art-girl hair, a pugnacious manner and warm eyes. She consults Dr. Knight regarding her Parkinson's disease, while Jamie pretends to be his intern. Against her better judgment, she falls in love with Jamie.

I'm not so sure about this film idea... sounds pretty boring, even for a chick flick. What's up with Hathaway always playing a "free spirit" or "trendy" role with her art-girl hair and such? Something tells me I won't be heading to the local theater to check this one out... unless my woman drags me, ugh.

Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal couldn't find true love in their first onscreen pairing in "Brokeback Mountain" (for obvious reasons), but now the pair are in talks to reunite in the new romantic drama "Love and Other Drugs" for 20th Century Fox and New Regency.

Ang Lee's film will be considered a social statement, but at heart it's a love story of whose beautifully woven fabric homosexuality is only a thread.

I may or may not go see it, that is assuming that it actually makes it that far. I never even seen Brokeback Mountain... well I seen bits and pieces of it, but never sat down to watch the entire thing.

Yeah, I don't think it would hurt Hathaway to step out of this obvious comfort zone for something a little different for a change. Not that she's bad, though. I may just have to drag my other half to go see if it's any good.

Am I missing something? How is this movie related to another Brokeback movie other than the fact that Jake stars in it? I'll probably go see it. He's been in quite a few movies that I like, and shouldn't be labeled because of one off-the-wall movie.
