Steven Dougherty's eyes bleed from watching Smallville's "Resurrection".

When your brother dies from a rare liver disease, just remember that if you live in Kansas he’s probably going to show up in your friend's barn, bleeding from the eyes, but otherwise alive. I think it’s the wheat.

Episode 3.15, "Resurrection"
Written by Todd Slavkin & Darren Swimmer
Directed by Terrence O’Hara
Guest Stars: Tahmoh Penikett (Vince), James Kirk (Garret), and Camille Mitchell (Sheriff Adams), Françoise Yip (Dr. Lia Teng).
Air Date: 02/18/04

"Resurrection" follows the tale of a rare liver disease. Garret manages to accept his loss, but then Vince pops back up alive and well. Lionel Luthor is to blame, of course. Remember how Adam supposedly died from liver disease? Yep, Vince got a dose of the same liquid Adam’s been using to keep himself alive. When Vince starts to die again, Garret straps a Kryptonite bomb to his chest and threatens to blow up the hospital if Vince isn’t given the liver of a nearby cardiac patient. Whom should that patient be but…that’s right, Jonathan Kent.

Jonathan is undergoing surgery to repair the damage done to his heart by Jor-El. His liver is healthy, I guess, or Garret wouldn’t want it. Clark does his level best to retrieve a vial of the magical liquid that can restore the dead to life, only to have said fluid ruined by the radiation from Garret’s bomb. Clark realizes pretty quickly that this stuff is probably derived from his own blood. He learns this too late to help save Vince, though. I guess Jonathan’s fucked then, right? Nope. Fortunately for the Kents, Sheriff Adams has a sniper at the ready for just such an occasion. Too bad the switch operating the bomb is a Dead Man’s Switch. Clark steals a lead vest from radiology and superspeeds the deadly device out of the hospital where it detonates harmlessly. There was a very cool wake effect when Clark used his speed. Very nice, that. Ever since the FX guys one an award for that superspeed in the rain scene from Accelerate, they must be going balls out with the money shots. I guess no one thought to ask what happened to the bomb Garret was showing off after he was shot. Continuity error much?

Lana, meanwhile, is still whiny and appears to be traumatized by Adam’s behavior and sudden disappearance. Naturally, now that he’s gone, you’d expect her to tell everyone about the strange events that led up to said disappearance seeing as she’s always talking about honesty and the dangers of keeping secrets. You’d be wrong, of course, but that’s okay. It’s a crime against humanity for Clark to withhold information about himself or his past, but it’s okay for Lana, because that’s him and this is her. The rules don’t apply to the LANA.

With Chloe at his command, Lex has managed to find out about the blood platelets Lionel’s using to bring people back from the dead. He once again blackmails Dr. Teng into his services and discovers the whereabouts of the missing Adam. He’s keenly interested in finding out why his father is so obsessed with resurrecting people who’ve died of the same liver disease. That is an interesting question, but we probably won’t get an answer for another week at least. Though some questions are answered, and a few new ones introduced, the over all episode was a pile of worthless dreck. I give "Resurrection":
